PM opens round the clock operations of Torkham Border Terminal
DG NLC briefs PM about arrangements made for 24/7 operation
Rawalpindi: 18 September 2019. Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated round the clock operation of the Torkham Border on Wednesday. A ceremony in this regard was held at Torkham Border Terminal which was attended by Senior Pakistani and Afghan officials.
On arrival at the venue, the Prime Minister was received by Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mr. Mahmood Khan and notables of the area. Director General National Logistics Cell(NLC), Major Gen Muhammad Asim Iqbal briefed the Prime Minister on arrangement made by NLC for round the clock operations of the Border Terminal. He informed that NLC was facilitating all govt agencies to perform their respective responsibilities in congenial environment and under one roof. He said that additional scanners and other equipment have been put in place for making 24/7 operations of border terminal smooth. He also briefed the Prime Minister about the measures being undertaken by NLC for the welfare of local community.
Maj Gen Muhammad Asim Iqbal gave overview of work on the upgradation of Border Terminal under Integrated Transit Trade Management System (ITTMS). He said that work on the project was already in progress. On completion of project international standard facilities will be made available at the Border Terminal which will further boost bilateral trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan, he added.
