DG NLC stresses robust logistics system for CPEC Project
Rawalpindi, 06 May, 2016: Director General National Logistics Cell (NLC) Major General Mushtaq Ahmed Faisal has underscored the need for revamping of the country’s logistics system to extract maximum benefits from the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project which is destined to change geo economic landscape of the entire region.
He was addressing student officers at the prestigious Army Service Corps (ASC) School at Nowshehra on Friday. DG NLC highlighted the emerging challenges and vast opportunities for the logistics sector in Pakistan in wake of the ongoing CPEC Project. He said that existing traditional transportation mechanism was required to be totally restructured in order to make it commensurate with requirements and volume of cargo to be transited through Pakistan. He dilated upon a host of initiatives undertaken by NLC to play proactive role in the growth and development of logistics sector in CPEC environment.
DG NLC informed that focus was being made to modernize the existing fleet, set up truck assembly lines of world’s leading brands under JV arrangement, implementation of e-culture in cargo handling and transportation and establishment logistics parks & centers at important locations along CPEC routes.
Maj General Mushtaq Ahmed Faisal said that NLC was playing an important role in the overall national development process. He said that besides ensuring supply of essential commodities, NLC was busy in construction of mega projects across Pakistan. The Dry Port and Border Terminals set up by NLC has given fillip to local and regional inland trade. Likewise, the organization is immensely contributing towards development of skilled human resource capital and transparent toll tax collection on major highways.
He said that NLC maintains an elaborate capacity to help meet the logistics requirements of Pakistan Army in case of war and emergencies. DG NLC informed that Army has included elements of NLC in major exercises as per the devised logistics plans. NLC also actively participates in event of natural calamities / disasters and undertakes its primary function of logistics crises management arm of the Govt.
On the leadership role, he stressed upon young officers to adopt three cardinal values encapsulating Character, Attitude and Professional Competency (CAP) in discharge of their duties. He said a true leader of men must be embodiment of exalted character, display positive approach and always strive hard to enhance his professional competency.
